A Discussion with Victoria Stilwell on the Neurobiology of Aggression

I had the honor of sitting down as Victoria Stilwell’s guest on the Positively Dog Training podcast in April, 2023.  Victoria is the CEO of Victoria Stilwell Positively Dog Training (VSPDT) – a global network of world-class positive reinforcement dog trainers, and a world-renowned dog trainer best known as the star of the international hit TV series It’s Me or the Dog

We took a deep dive into my 2023 Dog Behavior Conference presentation topic, “The Neurobiology of Aggression” and why an understanding of how the brain and nervous system impacts dog behavior helps guardians and trainers better serve aggressive dogs.  Here’s just a little of what we talked about.

  • How behavioral scientists approach this topic and how it applies to real-world dog training
  • How labels (like “aggressive”) can be both helpful and problematic
  • Building resilience in puppies
  • Why not all stress is bad for dogs

I think you’ll really enjoy this dynamic conversation between two professionals who are truly passionate about the science of dog behavior. Catch our discussion here.

The official Victoria Stilwell podcast, Positively Dog Training, can also be found on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcast, and Amazon Music.

    1. I think she may have done some acting early in her career, but now she is a dog trainer. She does have a couple of reality TV shows in the UK focused on dog training. She interviewed me earlier this year about the neurobiology of behavior.
